National Lampoon's Vacation: Our Family Does Florida!

We have a PLAN-ish! Never to be the blogger who posts after I'm certain about things, I thought I'd post our tentative plans here for our Summer 2012 family trip. I'm already likening us to the Griswalds because of the nature of this trip. We have pretty much made this as complicated as possible in order to get in everything that we want to do and to make the most of our vacation! This is what our week looks like so far...complete with an 8-day car rental and a toddler who can't sit still for 10 minutes. Insanity in it's most natural form:

Tuesday, July 10 - Fly to Tampa; Drive to Clearwater Beach
We will stay at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort for a few days and it looks lovely! Fingers crossed that we get upgraded b/c right now we have a parking lot view ;) But the Starwood system has never failed us before (except for that one time they checked a new family into our ocean-view room while we were at Nikki's wedding and we walked in on a woman changing - eek! Picture her and the two of us shouting THIS IS OUR ROOM! at each other at the same time. Got our points back though.) But whatev. The upgrade is pretty much a guarantee so let's hope for the best because I reeeeeally want this view...

On second thought, if Grayson sees all that water every time he looks out the window then maybe the parking lot would be best. I'm envisioning a repetitive, insistent toddler, "POOL, POOL, POOL, WATER, WATER, WATER, LET'S GO NOOOW!!" every second. Parking lots can be lovely that time of year ;)
Practicing for Florida. Now that it's hot outside, he only thinks about water. The kid is obsessed.
Friday, July 13 - Drive to Naples to stay with the Smedbergs!
Nikki and Brad have a great home about 3 hours south of Clearwater and we will stay with them for a few days. They are the REAL reason we are going to Florida :) I'm seriously ITCHING to get my hands on baby Weston and he will already be so grown up by the time we get there! Well, almost 5 months but still. They are kind enough to open up their home (and boat, holler!) to us and we're really looking forward to some quality time with them. We've been on many adventures with them (let the record show that the water-realted ones were particularly dramatic so they are very kind to invite us to their waterfront property - ha!). Can't wait!
Lifted this picture from Nikki like a true creeper. But I needed more pictures in this blog post - ha! But seriously, I'm not moving from that pool unless it's to go to the beach.

Another lifted picture. Okay, NOW my thievery is getting creepy. But look at THIS FACE. We will trade that week - Weston sleeps with us; they can have the squirmy toddler. Consider it practice. ;)

Monday, July 16 - Drive to Tampa
We will make the drive back up north to Tampa where we will fly out the following day. I'm thinking we'll leave before Grayson's nap around lunch time so that he can just sleep in the car. Won't be a great nap but it'll have to do. We'll stay the night at the Sheraton at the airport so that we aren't flying after a 3 hour drive with a toddler. I cringe at the thought of driving/flying in the same day. Now, an airport hotel after a 7-day trip in paradise sounds less exciting than the dental work that I just had done but hey, the 3 of us will be fresh for the flight and probably won't care after all the fun we had. Wish us luck!

Tuesday, July 17 - Fly back to Dallas
AT 8AM! But we will be ready to get back and it'll be first class. Breakfast on an airplane will keep G occupied for about 15 minutes so I'm in!
His last plane ride. No pacifiers this time - poop.
Wish us luck! This can't possibly be any more travel than our Boston/Maine trip last Spring so I think we can handle it. :)

Yay FL Griswald trips! We are DRIVING 14 HOURS WITH 2 kids. Yeah. I will be so envious of your 1st class breakfast at about hour 8 I bet! Sooo fun!

COURTNEY! That is intense! But it will be worth it when you get there. Are you going to Destin (I think that's 14 hrs)? We want to start to do Seaside as a tradition when G gets a little older. Nikki and Brad actually used to live in Sandestin otherwise, we'd be there!

We are staying at the Sheraton Sand Key in Clearwater in three weeks! That's where Ken's conference is for 2 days before we head over to Orlando for the rest of the week. So funny! We stayed there a few years ago for the same conference. Its nice! A long walk to the ocean across the beach but otherwise very pretty! And its a nice drive from Tampa to Naples - we did that during that same trip two years ago.

Yep! We rented a house that we are sharing with my brother and his family and my parents in Watercolor. Eric has two little girls that are right around my boys' ages, so we like to try and make a FL trip a year. We are going to drive to Beaumont and spend the night, then journey on to FL the next day. It's super intense, but now that we have to pay for FOUR seats (Henry technically is still free, I think we would need a seat for him), driving was our only option. I am planning on checking out every DVD in the library to prepare us!

YAY I have officially started shopping for pool floats and toys that Weston will be way too small for this summer by justifying that Grayson can use them this year and then Weston can just use them next year - lol

Nikki - that's funny, b/c I was hoping you would think about justifying some fun purchases so that we don't have to travel with much - ha! ;) You will ALWAYS need them :) But seriously, we'll bring some floaties for him and other than that - he'll just be happy to be in water! :) Do NOT break the bank.
