A few quick updates

I have SO much to blog about! From Thanksgiving in Austin (simply wonderful) to the first snow today in Dallas (too cool!), we have been busy. But I want to include pictures, which Beau needs to send me. Sooo, another time. But I CAN blog about our 10 week appt! Yes friends, we heard the heartbeat for the very first time this past Monday! I'm thrilled that Beau could be there - he won't be at most of my appts since he travels during the week and can only be there on Fridays. And (of course it would happen this way), my doc's office is closed Fridays. Poo. I won't bore you with the details of the incompetent nurse who fished around in my arm WITH A NEEDLE for my vein only to send me to a different lab. If that doesn't exude confidence, I don't know what does. I digress.....

I am 10 1/2 weeks but here is my 10 week update!

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

P.S. My doctor is the coolest, most relaxed guy in the world. He totally keeps me grounded. Massages? Sure. Headaches? drink a caffeine drink a day if needed.Tequila? Only 1 shot a day...KIDDING. Just making sure you are paying attention ;-)
